Is the Asus MeMo 370t the upcoming Google Nexus Tablet
In January at CES 2012, Asus showed of new Android 7-inch Tegra 3 quadcore tablet called the Asus MeMo 370T. The display boasts a 800 x 1280 resolution, and the tablet comes with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The tablet was supposed to be released with an incredible price of just US$249. While it is priced US$50 more than Amazon's Kindle Fire, with double the cores, double the RAM double the storage and which a HD displaythe MeMo specifications blow the Kindle Fire out of the water.
The Asus MeMo 370T went missing in action MWC 2012 in Februay and Google started talking about a Nexus Tablet, fueling speculation that the MeMo is the Google Nexus tablet. Amazon sold 4 million Kindle Fires in Q4 2011. It is not hard to see the MeMeo exceeding these sales.
Now with Google integrating its App, Book, Music and Video stores in one market, Google Play, it does look like Google is taking a page out of Amazon's playbook (no BlackBerry pun intended). In the same way that the Kindle Fire is Amazon's portal to Amazon Services, the Google Nexus Tablet could be Google's portal to its unified portal. eBooks and Movies are really served best on larger screens and a 7-inch tablet makes a nice substitute for a eBook Reader and portable movie player.
The Asus MeMo 370T was supposed to be launched in Quarter 2 of 2012. If the rumor is true, we might be surprised to see a Google Nexus Tablet sooner than we think. Another rumor going around is that the target price for the device is US$199. Keep your fingers crossed.
